Parental coordination

The parental coordination process

  • This is the work of two coordinators with a pair of parents.

  • The meetings are joint in the presence of both spouses.

  • The length of the process is about 15-20 sessions.

  • At the beginning of the process, a separate meeting is held with each of the parents and then all meetings are held together.

  • The parents sign a written agreement  that defines the work framework and the parents' commitment to the process.

  • At each meeting, signed consents are received and the parents sign the consents received.

  • The model emphasizes the process as well as the result. The focal point is a comprehensive communication template for the parents and decision-making. The ambition is to focus the children at the forefront and create the right solutions for them.

  • The tools are unique tools, developed especially for working with parents in conflict and they focus on: parental communication, focusing parents on their children's needs, and solving problems.

Family Dispute

Parental coordination is a service for parents, established to help them communicate with each other and solve parenting issues related to their children. After all, it is clear to every parent, even in conflict situations,  that everything must be done in order to minimize harm to the children.

Advantages

  • Improving parental cooperation.

  • Disconnecting from the physical and emotional relationships of marriage and/or cohabitation.

  • Understanding the impact of divorce/separation/living in separate homes and the parental conflict on the children.

  • A solution to everyday problems related to children and making shared parental decisions.

  • Reducing tensions between the parents and preventing and/or reducing loyalty conflict towards the parents.

  • Allows children to have two active parents in their lives.

  • Enables the creation of an atmosphere that encourages effective adaptation to the new reality.

  • Help in implementing court decisions.

process

The parental coordination process begins with separate and/or joint meetings between the parents and the coordinating body, depending on the need.

The first meeting is designed to get to know the parents, the family structure, as well as the issues at hand, including what the purpose of parental coordination is, as well as defining the goals they want to achieve in this process.

As part of the first meeting, the parents sign a parental coordination contract, which refers to their consent and commitment to the process.

Parental coordination meetings are held as often as once a week or once every two weeks, depending on the need.

Guiding principles

The guiding principles at the center of the parental coordination process are - placing the children's welfare at the center, their well-being and maximizing communication between the parents in order to achieve these goals.

The emphasis in the parental coordination process is placed on the children's needs in the present and in the future, while avoiding a breakdown in the relationship that belongs to the past. Most of the focus is directed towards the creation of open communication channels between the parents, with the aim of enabling normal family conduct and open and effective communication with the children.

On a personal noteAnd from my personal experience, parents who see the best interests of their children before their eyes, will make a supreme effort in the parental coordination process to improve communication between them, something that helps their children succeed in the rift they had to deal with due to the separation of their parents and the dissolution of the joint family nest.
